The Real UN Experience

WIMUN is a Model UN conference for those who truly want to learn about how diplomacy is conducted inside the United Nations, which is very different from what is simulated in traditional Model UNs. The Geneva conference takes place at the Centre International de Conférences Genève, features UN speakers and workshops, and uses the WIMUN Approach and practices. International Geneva

WIMUN’s European conference takes place in Geneva, Switzerland, a city that has embodied multilateralism for decades. Already after the end of World War I, Geneva became the center of multilateralism and diplomacy by hosting the Headquarters of the League of Nations in the historic Palais des Nations. Today, the Palais des Nations is host to the European Headquarters of the UN along with important UN bodies and conferences, such as the Human Rights Council and the Conference on Disarmament. Besides that, more than 250 permanent missions, delegations and representations, and more than 400 NGOs have settled on the banks of Lake Geneva, making Geneva a truly international city and a perfect environment for a WIMUN conference.

Centre International de Conférences Genève

The Centre International de Conférences Genève (CICG) (English: International Conference Center Geneva), lies in the heart of the international district Geneva. The Palais des Nations and several other UN institutions, such as WHO, ILO and UNHCR, are just footsteps away. The CICG hosts international conferences all year long, where a vast variety of topics, ranging from human rights to health and sustainable development, are addressed. The CICG is WIMUN Geneva’s main conference venue, giving participants the opportunity to negotiate in a modern, state-of-the-art conference venue where UN diplomats themselves negotiate regularly.

UN Agenda & Experts

WIMUN features United Nations officials or diplomats as speakers on the topics for every simulation, and topics selected are from the actual UN agenda. This helps delegates understand the topics in-depth and in how they are debated, negotiated, and implemented in real life. An additional benefit of selecting all topics directly from the actual UN agenda is that delegates will find information on the policies of the country they are representing more easily, as Member States at the real UN give public statements on these topics regularly. Many delegates are participating in WIMUN simulations for the first time, and this ensures that everyone is comfortable and confident in getting the most out of their experience.

The consensus-driven WIMUN approach makes simulations more diplomatic and cordial compared to competitive Model UN conferences and allows students to have quality interactions with their fellow delegates.
