WFUNA Forms Strategic Partnership for Youth Empowerment

WFUNA Forms Strategic Partnership for Youth Empowerment

WFUNA Forms Strategic Partnership for Youth Empowerment

MONDAY, AUGUST 8, 2016

NEW YORK, NY - The World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) has partnered with the National Observatory of Children's Rights (ONDE) in Morocco and the United Nations Non-Governmental Liaison Service (NGLS) on a program of activities aimed at empowering African youth, including young women, to be leaders and changemakers in the lead up to COP22 to take place in Marrakesh from 7-18 November, 2016.

Young people have a key role to play in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and transforming societies toward a climate-resilient future. The proposed partnership aims to build capacity among youth to address global issues and challenges, and to empower them with skills and knowledge to actively engage on these issues in their own communities and countries, as well as at the United Nations. The first training session is planned before COP22, while two youth conferences are scheduled to happen during COP22. The last training session will take place in New York, in December 2016, involving participants from the previous gatherings. Young participants will also contribute to development and implementation of future programming scheduled for 2017.
