WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 6, 2017

On December 6, 2017, the World Federation of United Nations Associations in partnership with UNA Sweden and UNA DRC convened a multi-stakeholder dialogue on sustaining peace in the Democratic Republic of the Congo for over 50 UN and civil society actors. 

The panelists included:

  • Ms. Julie Jolles, Political Advisor, Permanent Mission of the United States to the United Nations
  • Mr. Ugo Solinas, Principal Officer/Team Leader for the Great Lakes Integrated Operational Team, Department of Peacekeeping Operations
  • Mr. Cissa Wa Numbe, Secretary-General, United Nations Association of the Democratic Republic of the Congo
  • Ms. Akshaya Kumar, Deputy United Nations Director, Human Rights Watch

Opening remarks were given by Mr. Aleksander Gabelic, President of United Nations Association of Sweden and the panel was moderated by Mr. Bonian Golmohammadi, Secretary-General for the World Federation of United Nations Associations.

The panel discussed challenges affecting MONUSCO, different perspectives, and possible steps forward. They then answered questions from those in attendance.
