Closing Ceremony: Mission Possible Singapore, 2018-2019

Agents of Change celebrated their achievements at the Closing Ceremony in Singapore.

“It is the first time we did a project where there was actual, real impact,” a student from Tanglin Trust School reflects about their experience with WFUNA Mission Possible: Singapore.

SINGAPORE, 22 May 2019 – On 22 May 2019, WFUNA’s Mission Possible Singapore hosted its second successful program cycle at Tanglin Trust School. Twenty-one students from Tanglin Trust School presented their final projects to the administration, teachers, and distinguished guests from The Global Citizen, an educational social enterprise. A total of five projects were presented highlighting SDGs 15: Life on Land, 17: Partnership for the Goals, SDG 10: Reducing Inequalities, and SDG 5: Gender Equality.

The event honored the students, newfound agents of change, as they presented their projects with collective challenges, successes, and take-aways of their overall experience. One group, Project Rainbow, addressed SDG 10: Reducing Inequalities. In their community needs assessment, the team found that some members of the community stigmatize persons with mental disabilities. The group then decided to bring awareness about destigmatizing this issue by carrying out a campaign and a school assembly. Project Rainbow also aided a local organization that serves children with special needs by creating sports programs, games, and other social activities.

Throughout the project, the team saw a newfound awareness in their local community and a change of attitude within themselves. “A simple acknowledgment can make a big difference in our community,” a team member of Project Rainbow shares.

Throughout the Closing Ceremony, each team reflected on their journey over the past several months. All of the students expressed personal enthusiasm, confidence, and pride as they shared their stories. A student from Tanglin Trust School shares, “Just start. Everything else will fall in place.”
