Civil Society Dialogue with Ambassador Vanessa Frazier of Malta

Ambassador Vanessa Frazier of Malta

On February 2nd, 2023 the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) convened in-person for the forty fifth installment in a series of monthly dialogues between the President of the UN Security Council and Civil Society organizations.

The dialogue featured H.E. Ms. Vanessa Frazier, Permanent Representative of Malta to the UN. WFUNA’s Director of Geneva Office, Mr. Aziel Goulandris, moderated the briefing, which was attended by representatives of civil society organizations, in addition to those tuning on to the livestream from different parts of the world.

The event was broadcasted live on UN Web TV and promoted on social media with the hashtag #MeetUNSCPres to allow for a participation from a global audience and wider stakeholder engagement.

Ambassador Vanessa Frazier highlighted priorities in the programme of work for February, notably their commitment to women peace and security, sea level rise as a security risk, devoting attention to children in areas of conflict, in addition to their intention of highlighting the role of civil society in bringing matters of attention to the Council.

The floor was then opened for questions from representatives of civil society organizations on a wide range of topics relating to the protection of civilians and conflict prevention. Additionally, topics such as the importance of the council speaking with a united voice, youth being the common concern of mankind, and Malta’s focus on dignified migration were explored, among other issues.
