Civil Society Dialogue with Ambassador Djani of Indonesia, President of the UN Security Council for May 2019

On May 14th, the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) organized the seventeenth installment in a series of monthly dialogues between the President of the UN Security Council and Civil Society organization at the United Nations Headquarters.

The dialogue featured H.E. Dian Triansyah Djani, Permanent Representative of Indonesia to the UN, and President of the Security Council for the month of May. WFUNA’s Secretary-General, Mr. Bonian Golmohammadi, moderated the briefing, which was attended by over 30 participants from UN-accredited civil society organizations.

The event was broadcast live on UN Web TV with 684 viewers, and it was promoted on social media with the hashtag #MeetUNSCPres to allow for a participation from a global audience and wider stakeholder engagement.

Ambassador Djani shared the Council’s programme of work for the month and highlighted the two Open debates they are organizing: an Open Debate on Improving the Safety and Performance of UN Peacekeepers as well as an Open Debate on the Protection of Civilians in Armed Conflict. The floor was then opened for questions from representatives of civil society organizations on country specific questions relating to Myanmar and the Rohingya Crisis, Venezuela, Sudan, Syria, as well as on topics such as the Protection of Civilians, Climate Change, Youth, Peace and Security and on Iran and the Non-Proliferation Treaty.

WFUNA will continue hosting monthly briefings with subsequent Presidents of the United Nations Security Council.
