Ambassador Park Soo Gil, President of WFUNA, hosted a dinner in honor of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and Mrs. Ban during their visit to Seoul in August.

The dinner, held in Baeklihyang, Seoul, on 12 August, was attended by some 40 leaders from economic, social, cultural, academic and political circles in Korea. Among the dignitaries were Chairman Hur Chang Soo, President of the Federation of Korean Industries (FKI), an influencial economic association consisting of Korea's major conglomerates and associated members,  Chairman Sohn Kyung Shik of Korean Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Park Kwan Yong, former Speaker of National Assembly, Mr. Lee Chul Sung, President of Seoul Peace Prize Foundation, Chairman Yoon Se Young of Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS), Dr. Lee Bae Yong, Chairperson of the Presidential Council on Nation Branding (PCNB), Mr. Hong Myung Bo, Director of National Olympic Football Team, and the Presidents of Ewha, Yonsei, Handong, and Kangnam Universities.

During the dinner discussion, Secretary-General Ban noted with appreciation the contributions of WFUNA to the promotion of the cause of the United Nations throughout the world and the active support the participating guests had been rendering for the various UN-related activities. He also shared his assessment of the achievement of the UN in recent years, such as on-going progress in the area of the democratization process in Middle East and Africa as well as the UN’s future challenges. He introduced some of the priorities he would be pursuing under his second term of office.
