The 41st International Development Forum on Peace Calls for Inclusive Partnerships Towards Sustaining Peace

The 41st International Development Forum on Peace Calls for Inclusive Partnerships Towards Sustaining Peace

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 6, 2018

Seoul, Republic of Korea - The 41st KOICA International Development Forum' titled "A Global, Inclusive Partnership towards Sustaining Peace," was held on 29 November in Seoul, Republic of Korea.

The overarching objective of the forum was to explore ways in which the bilateral ODA agencies, including KOICA, can build peace and sustain peace in practice through partnership with many other players including multilateral donors and NGOs, as well as what kinds of comparative advantages KOICA can have as bilateral ODA agency. For that, in this forum, sustaining peace agenda was examined through the different lenses from examining global key discourse focusing on SDG16+ initiatives and Pathways for peace research outcome, to exploring ways to integrate this agenda into the policies and practices at the national level by sharing best practices and lessons learned from field experience of diverse players at the conflict affected and fragile setting.

Senior Peace and Security Officer, Margaret Williams, spoke on a panel, “Integrating Sustaining Peace in National Policies and Practices”. This contribution, particularly pulling from lessons learned and key take-aways captured through the 16+ Forum Annual Showcases (2017 in Tbilisi, Georgia and 2018 in Freetown, Sierra Leone) highlighted best practices in SDG16+ implementation, as related to sustaining peace, and at national and local levels and the value of synchronized agendas for coherent and strategic policy.
