As part of a three part series, WFUNA hosted its second Dag Hammarskjold Symposium in Beijing, China on 1 December, 2011, in collaboration with the Research Center of the United Nations and International Organizations from Beijing Foreign Studies University, Embassy of Sweden in Beijing, and United Nations Association of China.
As part of WFUNA’s Dag Hammarskjold Symposium Series, WFUNA is collaborating with the Embassy of Sweden in Beijing and the United Nations Association of China, to commemorate the death of Dag Hammarskjold (the former Secretary-General of the United Nations – 1953 – 1961), in Beijing, China on December 1st.
On November 1st, WFUNA submitted its contribution to the UNCSD compilation document. In preparation for the Rio +20 conference, the UNCSD put out a call for input from Major Groups as identified in Agenda 21. Major Groups, including nongovernmental organizations, were invited to submit papers on how the world can move towards sustainable development.
WFUNA is proud to celebrate 65 years of commitment to its mission of building a better world by strengthening and improving the United Nations through the engagement UNAs and global citizens.
Just one year after the proclamation of the UN Charter, WFUNA was founded in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, on 2 August 1946 by 22 United Nations Associations. This year marks the 65th anniversary of this historic Plenary Assembly, and the occasion to celebrate the anniversary of WFUNA and its founding members.
